Season One
The Field of Dreams Simulation Baseball League is organized and run by Commissioner Robert McMeen.
With no previous experience running a league or even a website of any kind, Robert took over the league after it had been left by
its original founder. The first official season for the Field of Dreams Simulation Baseball League began in June of 2007.
We began with 24 teams and ran a 162 game season. While the season was one for getting to know each other and better understanding
the rules and the player pool, it was also very competitive. Numerous teams fought for playoff spots almost from the beginning.
American
League West: The standout in this division was the Dyersville Dreamers, a team that led the American League West division by
May 4th and never looked back. They wound up winning a Field of Dreams season high of 108 games. The Channing Bombers
were in a fight for a wild card spot the entire season. The Bombers had competition for a wild card spot from the Alaska LaserLight
out of the American League South division and the Puget Sound Superiors from their own division. Though they only led for the
final playoff spot by 2 games with a few weeks remaining, they held the lead all the way through to the end and edged out Alaska and
Puget Sound both by 4 games.
American League South: The American League South division was fought for by 4 clubs until September,
when the San Benito StrangeGloves and the Alaska LaserLight fell away. The remaining 2 clubs, the Frisco Eagles and the Cincinnati
Legends, wound up in a tie for the division after the end of the regular season. The division winner was decided by head to
head record, which the Eagles won 12 out of 18 games during the regular season against the Legends.
National League East: The
San Fernando Valley Fluffers looked to make a run at the division in the spring and early part of summer, but by the heat of August
they were soundly behind in the standings. The New York Towers and the Hampstead Muskrats were clearly the class in the division,
the Towers doing it with decent offense and good pitching, the Muskrats by mashing the ball out of the park. The two teams traded
positions for the lead multiple times down the stretch, but finally the Towers made the final move by winning their last two games
while the Muskrats were losing their final two games, giving the Towers the division by a single game.
National League North:
This was another hotly contested division, with 4 teams having a legitimate shot at the lead throughout the season. The Graettinger
Pirates led the division throughout the summer, keeping a comfortable 6 game lead on their competition. The other three clubs
fought back and forth, and kept the Pirates in view all the while. By mid September the other three clubs were all within 5
games of the Pirates. By September 27th the Cow Bay Clamshuckers had caught the Pirates and had a tie for the division, while
the Cussler’s Crazies and North Liberty Hawkeyes were both within 4 games but had only 3 left to play. In the end it was Cow
Bay who took the division, after Graettinger had led it all season Cow Bay won the division and had only led it for 2 days, but they
were the most important 2 days, the last 2.
Playoffs:
In the American League Playoffs, the Dyersville Dreamers were
clearly the #1 seed and would have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Eagles wound up the #2 seed in the playoffs,
and the Legends the #3 seed, so the teams appropriately played each other in round one. The #4 seed was the Channing Bombers.
The Dreamers and Bombers met each other in the first round. Though the Dreamers were the favorites, the Bombers took them to
a deciding Game 5. The Dreamers had to score 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to win the game and the Divisional Playoff
Series. The Eagles and Legends also went to a deciding Game 5, appropriate given the battle waged between the 2 during the regular
season. The Legends scored the winning run in the top of the 9th inning against Eagles starter John Tudor to win their Divisional
Playoff Series.
The Dreamers and Legends met to decide the American League Pennant. Cincinnati surprisingly won the first
3 games, including the first 2 on the road. Though the Dreamers won game 4 with their backs against the wall, they were blown
out in Game 5 by a 7-run 6th inning in which the Legends hit 3 doubles and a triple. The Legends would represent the American
League in the Field of Dreams first World Series.
In the National League Playoffs, the Cow Bay Clamshuckers won the #1 seed by
1 game. The New York Towers and Graettinger Pirates tied for the #2 seed, the Towers winning it based on their head-to-head
record. The Pirates were the #3 seed and would face the Towers on the road to start the series. The Hampstead Muskrats
would be the #4 seed and face the Clamshuckers on the road. Cow Bay and Hampstead split the first 2 games of the series, and
then Hampstead scored 19 runs in Games 3 and 4 to close out the Clamshuckers and go to the League Championship Series. Though
the Towers took 4 out of 6 games from the Pirates during the regular season, the Pirates took Game 1, and then also Game 2 even after
the Towers scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game and force extra innings, then Carlton closed out the sweep in Game
3.
The Muskrats and Pirates met to decide the National League Pennant, the #3 and #4 seeds. The Pirates managed to win
against the Muskrats with pitching. Taming the Muskrats offense, the Pirates won this series as they had their Divisional Series,
in a sweep. The Pirates allowed the Muskrats 12 runs in 4 games. The Pirates would represent the National League in the
World Series.
In the World Series, the Legends were the home team, and finally gave the Pirates their first loss in resounding
fashion, winning Game 1 12 – 2. In Game 2, the Pirates sent Warren Spahn to the mound but he lasted only 1 batter before getting
injured. The Pirates bullpen, forced into early and long duty, held the Legends to just 3 hits in a combined shutout victory.
In Game 3, Pirates ace and unanimous pitcher of the year Bob Gibson pitched a gem, allowing 4 hits, 5 walks and just 1 run in 8 innings
of work. The Pirates won the game by a score of 5 – 1 and now led the Series 2 games to 1. In Game 4, the pitching was
masterful from both teams. Legends starter Ed Walsh went 8 innings, allowed just 3 hits and 1 walk for 1 run. The Pirates
Steve Carlton was equal to the task, also going 8 innings, allowing 4 hits, 5 walks and 1 run. Both starters turned over the
game to their bullpens, and in the 12th inning the Pirates scored 3 runs in the bottom of the inning against Hooks Wiltse to win the
game and take a commanding 3 games to 1 Series lead. Cincinnati stormed right back. In Game 5, Walter Johnson gave up
only 4 hits and 4 walks for just 1 run to beat the Pirates and force a Game 6. With the Pirates now up 3 games to 2, the Pirates
sent Bob Gibson to the mound. He only lasted 4 1/3 innings and the game went into extra frames. In the 10th, the Pirates
scored in the top of the inning off of Hooks Wiltse. The Legends, with their backs against the wall, scored 2 runs to win the
game and force yet another game, this time a winner-take-all Game 7. The Pirates had Steve Carlton hurling for them against
the Legends and Ed Walsh. Carlton went 6 but allowed 3 runs, while Walsh went 8. Walsh allowed just 5 hits, 1 walk and
1 run. The Legends won the game 4 – 1, an improbable victory after being down 3 games to 1 against a team who had swept their
first 2 series. It was the Legends pitching that did in the Pirates, allowing just 46 hits in 7 games and posting a 2.74 ERA.
The Cincinnati Legends are the Field of Dreams Champion for Season One.
All Star Game: The All Star Game was won by the home
team National League, with a winning run scored in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs against one of the best closers of the season,
John Wetteland. After getting 2 strikeouts Wetteland allowed a pinch-hit single by Eddie Collins and then a walk-off pinch-hit
double by Frank Robinson, who was a managers choice to be on the team.
Many players had standout seasons; the following were

FACT #1: HAM leads the league in AVG/OBP/SPC, and
has 3 hitters on my list.
CONCLUSION #1: bonds' career as a giant might be coming to a close, but he is still a "giant" for HAM (who is only 2 games behind their division leader). FACT #2: DYE is the only division leader with 2 hitters on my list. CONCLUSION #2: there's more to winning than hitting. FACT #3: ALA and NYT lead their respective divisions, and are the only teams with a starter/reliever on my list. CONCLUSION #3: pitching wins games. FACT #4: ROC has both of the specialists on my list, yet has a losing record. CONCLUSION #4: let tiant and ruth start more games!! LINEUP (MINIMUM 300 AB, * if also a hitter of the 1st 100 games)

FACT #1: TUA leads
the league in AVG/2B, bot only has 1 hitter on my list.
CONCLUSION #1: honus wagner needs a supporting cast (TUA is 39 games behind their division leader). FACT #2: HAM/DYE are the only 2 teams with more than 1 hitter on my list. CONCLUSION #2: hitting helps (each of them lead their respective divisions). FACT #3: FRI leads the league in ERA, yet does not have a single pitcher on my list. CONCLUSION #3: pithcing balance helps a lot (FRI leads its division). FACT #4: ALA/NYT are the only teams with a starter/reliever on my list, but neither leads their division. CONCLUSION #4: pitching stardom helps to a lesser degree (each of them have gone 4-6 in their last 10 games). LINEUP (MINIMUM 350 AB, * if also a hitter of the 1st 120 games)
